Winners of 2012 Satisfaction Awards announced

Autobytel and AutoPacific have announced the winners of their 16th annual Vehicle Satisfaction Awards. The awards are made to help consumers make informed vehicle purchase decisions with the assistance of a true “word of mouth” survey.

“In today’s market, it’s difficult to find a low-quality vehicle,” according to AutoPacific president George Peterson. “The quality of vehicles from all manufacturers has risen to the highest level in history and what delineates a car or truck is owner satisfaction.

“Consumer purchases are often influenced by objective awards especially when they are based on consumer sentiment. It was our goal to get the input from as many consumers as possible because ultimately, it’s the consumer’s opinion that counts.”

Autobytel and AutoPacific’s Vehicle Satisfaction survey measures how satisfied an owner is with his or her new vehicle. New vehicle owners provide input on 48 individual attributes that objectively measure the ownership experience such as driver’s seat comfort, power and acceleration, interior styling, exterior styling, cargo space/capacity, ease of getting in and out, and quietness inside the vehicle. This year’s study included more than 75,000 owners of vehicles from all major manufacturers.

“With hundreds of 2012 model year vehicles available, consumers need assistance to find a vehicle that’s right for them,” said Autobytel CEO Jeffrey Coats. “The 48 vehicle attributes we survey is detailed information that only a vehicle owner can provide, and that most consumers would want to know. Cars that score highest in the Vehicle Satisfaction survey appear to be delivering the highest value and consumer satisfaction across a wide range of attributes.” He added, “We are pleased to announce this year’s winners and congratulate them on their ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction.”

Iveco wins Dakar Rally

For the first time in its history, an Iveco won the top truck spot in the 33rd running of the Dakar Rally. In fact, Ivecos took first place, second place and sixth place. the Petronas De Rooy Iveco team won the rally with the Dutchman, Gerard De Rooy, driving an Australian-market Iveco Powerstar equipped with a FPT Industrial C13 engine with more than 900 horsepower and Magneti Marelli parts. Behind De Rooy, the other pilots of the team, Hans Stacey and Miki Biasion drove two Iveco Trakker Evolution 2 trucks equipped with the same engine. The three vehicles, while adapted to the extreme conditions of the rally, were standard trucks optimised for best-in-class energy efficiency.

The race, which started on January 1, 2012 in Mar del Plata, crossed Argentina, Chile and Peru, covering 14 stages, for a total of 8,500 kilometers (5,278 miles). About 4,200 kilometers (2,600 miles) were against the clock.

Iveco CEO, Alfredo Altavilla, commented: “The Iveco participation in the Dakar 2012 aimed to confirm once more the excellent reliability of the Iveco trucks and of the FPT Industrial engines. Winning the rally and ranking 3 trucks in the first 6 positions is an outstanding success which shows the efficiency, strength and safety of the Iveco Trakker and Powerstar, already considered by customers as the ideal solution for everyday use and for tougher challenges. My special thanks to the pilots and all the other team members for their commitment and dedication”.

Passat named “Best of 2012″ by Cars.com

Automotive information source has named the 2012 Volkswagen Passat “Best of 2012.” The selection was based on Passat’s value and standard features like Bluetooth technology, dual-zone automatic climate control, class-leading rear seat legroom, VW’s Carefree Maintenance program and a starting MSRP of $19,995.

Before making their choice, editors at Cars.com tested more than 65 model year 2012 vehicles. Six finalists, including the Subaru Impreza, Range Rover Evoque, Hyundai Veloster, Hyundai Accent, and Audi A7, made it to the final round.

In addition to the “Best of 2012” honor, Cars.com named the Passat TDI Clean Diesel their “Eco-Friendly Car of the Year.” The 2.0L four-cylinder engine produces 140 horsepower and an exceptional 236 pound-feet of torque while offering an industry-leading 795-mile range on a full tank. The Passat TDI manual has an EPA estimated 43 mpg on the highway.

“This recognition is an honor. We set out to bring to market a sedan that appealed to the American consumer in the highly competitive midsize segment and the Passat is quickly earning a spot on the U.S. consumer’s shopping list due to its exceptional value, strong list of standard features, and German heritage,” said Kevin Joostema, general manager of product marketing. “Accolades such as this indicate that we’re succeeding.”
